Moore County businesses looking to strengthen their workforce will soon have a new opportunity. The Sandhills Community College Empower to Work workshop is set to provide practical tools and real-world strategies to help local employers expand hiring pathways for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The free session will be held Wednesday, March 18, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Clement Dining Room inside the Dempsey Student Center in Southern Pines. The event is hosted by Sandhills Community College in partnership with the Moore County Chamber of Commerce.

Workforce challenges continue to impact employers across Moore County and the Sandhills region. Organizers say the Sandhills Community College Empower to Work workshop is designed to help businesses discover new talent pipelines while building more inclusive workplaces.

The interactive forum will be led by Sherrell Gales of Abound Health, a multi-state advocacy organization that supports individuals and families with special needs. Attendees will learn practical steps to recruit, onboard and retain employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

College leaders say the workshop reflects ongoing efforts to support both students and employers throughout Southern Pines, Aberdeen and Pinehurst.
