The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the death of a 52-year-old woman at the Moore County Detention Center on Thursday, September 10.
According to a sheriff’s office statement reported by Sandhills Sentinel, Christy White used an intercom to report difficulty breathing around 3 a.m. Staff responding to her cell found her unresponsive on her bed.
Detention employees began lifesaving efforts, which Moore County EMS continued. White was pronounced dead despite those efforts.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields said the SBI is conducting an independent investigation under standard protocol. The statement did not identify a cause of death.
