Carthage, N.C. – Moore County Schools is partnering with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to support “Operation Safe Start,” a countywide traffic safety campaign focused on helping ensure a safe start to the new school year.
As students, parents, school staff, and motorists return to their normal school-year routines, motorists can expect an increased law enforcement presence in and around school zones throughout Moore County. Deputies and troopers will focus on speeding and other unsafe driving violations that can place students, school personnel, and other motorists at risk.
The beginning of the school year brings increased traffic, school buses, additional pedestrian activity, and more student drivers on our roadways. Motorists are reminded to slow down, remain patient and alert, obey posted speed limits in school zones, and allow additional time for their morning and afternoon commutes.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol will lead enforcement efforts as part of Operation Safe Start, focusing on traffic safety in and around school zones throughout Moore County.
“The safety of our students, employees, families, and community remains a top priority,” Superintendent Jenny Purvis said. “We appreciate the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol for partnering with us to promote safe driving and help protect everyone traveling to and from our schools.”
Moore County Schools’ first day of school for students is August 26, 2026.
