FirstHealth’s Lung Cancer Program has again been named a Center of Excellence by GO2 for Lung Cancer.
The designation recognizes FirstHealth’s commitment to providing patient-centered and evidence-based lung-cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment across the Sandhills.
FirstHealth Reports Strong Early-Detection Rate
FirstHealth says approximately 46 percent of the lung cancers diagnosed through its program are identified at stage one. The reported national average is approximately 26 percent.
Identifying lung cancer during its earliest stage can provide patients with more treatment options and improve the likelihood of a successful outcome.
FirstHealth combines lung-cancer screening with a multidisciplinary approach involving pulmonology, oncology, surgery, radiation and other support services.
Advanced Cancer Care in the Sandhills
Patients receive care through FirstHealth facilities and the FirstHealth Cancer Center, which opened in Pinehurst in 2023.
Program leaders say the recognition reflects continuing investments in screening technology, advanced diagnostic procedures and coordinated treatment close to home.
The Center of Excellence network connects community hospitals, clinics, academic centers and Veterans Affairs facilities working to improve lung-cancer detection and treatment.
