The Moore County Board of Commissioners approved millions in spending during a busy meeting this week, including major investments tied to schools, public safety, and future county development projects. The Moore County school funding sheriff contracts decisions are expected to impact residents throughout the Sandhills.
Commissioners approved a $1.5 million lottery fund draw for summer school maintenance projects across the county. The projects include roof repairs, lift station replacements, and upgrades to several school facilities.
School Maintenance Projects Approved Across Moore County
The approved funding includes repairs at the Child Nutrition Building, Union Pines High School’s agriculture and automotive building, and North Moore High School. Additional infrastructure improvements are planned at West Pine Middle School and Sandhills Farm Life Elementary.
During the meeting, commissioners also reviewed Moore County Schools’ proposed $167.7 million budget for the 2026-27 school year.
Several board members raised questions about reserve fund balances and district spending trends over the past few years. Officials discussed rising operational costs, inflation, staffing concerns, and charter school growth as key budget challenges.
New Sheriff’s Facility Planned
The Moore County school funding sheriff contracts agenda also included major law enforcement investments.
Commissioners approved a five-year contract with Securitas Technology Corporation for security equipment upgrades tied to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. The county also approved a contract with Moseley Architects related to a new forensic services facility.
The planned 7,000-square-foot building will be constructed near the Rick Rhyne Public Safety Center and is expected to cost approximately $4 million overall.
County officials say the future facility could help provide faster testing services and improve courtroom case processing throughout Moore County.
The board also discussed proposed Unified Development Ordinance changes, including adjustments affecting small businesses and residential setback rules.
