Moore County Elections Board Plans Lottery for Campaigning Tables

Political organizations seeking space outside Moore County’s early-voting locations will have their campaigning-table positions determined through a new lottery system.

The Moore County Board of Elections supports testing the system following disputes over preferred locations during previous elections. Elections Director Towanna Dixon said the goal is to make the process more equitable for groups that may not be able to arrive early enough to claim a preferred space.

How the Table Lottery Will Work

Election officials plan to map the available table locations at each early-voting site and assign a number to every space. A random-number generator will then be used to match requesting organizations with available positions.

Officials are also considering limits on campaign signs and requirements that tents be properly anchored. The lottery will initially operate as a trial and could be used again during future elections if it proves successful.

Moore County Early-Voting Locations

Early voting will run from October 15 through October 31 at the following locations:

  • Vass Town Hall, 140 South Alma Street
  • Moore County Agricultural Center, 707 Pinehurst Avenue in Carthage
  • Aberdeen Parks and Recreation Center on U.S. 1

Sites will operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Saturday voting will be available October 17, 24 and 31 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
