The Harnett County Community Health Assessment has identified food access, behavioral health, and recreation opportunities as the county’s most pressing health concerns.
The findings were presented to the Harnett County Board of Commissioners during its June 9 meeting and will help guide future planning efforts.
Officials say the assessment comes at a critical time as Harnett County continues to experience rapid growth.
Harnett County Community Health Findings Released
The assessment was completed in partnership with Campbell University’s School of Public Health and included 407 surveys, listening sessions, and extensive data analysis.
Residents consistently highlighted challenges involving access to nutritious food, mental health resources, and opportunities to connect with their communities.
Health Director Ainsley Johnson noted that community health affects quality of life, economic development, and demand for public services.
The county plans to use the results to create a Community Health Improvement Plan expected later this year.
County Leaders Also Review Workplace Safety Policy
Commissioners also discussed establishing a formal safety committee to improve workplace safety practices throughout county government.
The proposed committee would focus on hazard identification, employee communication, and creating safer work environments across departments.
Officials say the policy could strengthen safety awareness and help prevent workplace incidents.
