A Cameron NC officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a deadly encounter between a suspect and a Moore County deputy Saturday night. Authorities have identified the man involved as 52-year-old Harvey Franklin Hardy of Cameron.

According to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 10:42 p.m. to the 200 block of Carthage Street after a motorist reported that someone had fired a gun and struck their vehicle. The driver was not injured and provided a description of the suspect.

What Happened During the Cameron NC Officer-Involved Shooting

Deputies say a responding officer located an armed individual matching the description within minutes. The suspect reportedly fled on foot, running around a nearby building while being pursued.

During the pursuit, authorities say the suspect fired a weapon at the deputy. The deputy returned fire, striking the individual. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputy involved in the Cameron NC officer-involved shooting was not injured.

Investigation Now Underway

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case. This is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings across North Carolina.
