Aberdeen Police Department has officially launched its first Honor Guard Team, a ceremonial unit created to uphold the department’s highest traditions of discipline, respect, and service to the community.
Formed in 2025, the Honor Guard Team represents the department at some of the most meaningful and solemn moments in public service, including line-of-duty funerals, memorial services, civic ceremonies, and community events throughout Aberdeen and the surrounding Sandhills region.
In announcing the team, the department emphasized the importance of precision, professionalism, and respect in every appearance.
“This dedicated team is called upon to represent the Aberdeen Police Department at line-of-duty funerals, memorial services, civic events, ceremonies, and community functions,” the department shared on social media. “Every movement, uniform detail, whether for solemn remembrance or celebration, reflects a commitment to honoring not only the occasion, but the values of law enforcement and the community we serve.”
A Voluntary Commitment to Service and Tradition
Serving on the Honor Guard is entirely voluntary and requires additional training, time, and discipline beyond regular law enforcement duties. Officers selected for the unit commit themselves to strict ceremonial standards, ensuring each event is conducted with dignity and respect.
According to the department, the Honor Guard’s role extends beyond ceremonial presentation. The team also serves as a visible reminder of the professionalism, sacrifice, and values shared between law enforcement and the community.
“These officers proudly step forward to represent our department, our town, and the law enforcement profession,” the department stated.
