Robin Sage Exercise Underway Across the Sandhills Through August 27

Residents across the Sandhills may notice increased military activity as Special Forces candidates participate in the Army’s Robin Sage training exercise.

The exercise continues through August 27 and includes training areas across Moore, Lee, Harnett, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond and Scotland counties. Additional activity is taking place throughout North Carolina and portions of South Carolina.

What Residents Could See and Hear

Residents may encounter military vehicles, uniformed personnel and participants wearing civilian clothing. Blank gunfire and occasional flares may also be used to create realistic training conditions.

Students wearing civilian clothing will have a distinctive orange or brown armband. Vehicles and designated training areas will also be clearly marked.

Army officials say all Robin Sage movements and events have been coordinated with public-safety agencies in the participating communities. Controls are in place to protect residents and property.

What Is Robin Sage?

Robin Sage is the final training exercise for students completing the U.S. Army Special Forces Qualification Course through the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg.

The exercise places candidates inside the fictional country of Pineland. Students work alongside military personnel and civilian volunteers portraying resistance fighters as they respond to armed conflict, political instability and other realistic challenges.

Robin Sage serves as the culmination of more than a year of training for soldiers hoping to join the Army’s Special Forces community.

What to Do If You Have Concerns

Residents should not interfere with the exercise. Anyone with an immediate safety concern should contact their local law-enforcement agency, which can communicate directly with exercise officials.

Questions may also be directed to the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School Public Affairs Office at 910-689-6221 or 910-850-3375.
