Good News Roundup: Lottery Luck, Cleaner Rivers, and a Dog’s Second Chance

Good News

Sometimes good news comes from the most unexpected places — even the trash. From a winning lottery ticket rescued just in time to sanitation workers saving a starving dog, here are a few feel-good stories making the rounds.

Ohio Man Finds $100,000 Lottery Ticket in the Trash

An Ohio man had a very close call after accidentally throwing away a lottery ticket worth $100,000.

Luckily, trash collection had not come yet. Once he realized what had happened, he went back through the garbage and managed to recover the winning ticket.

It turned out to be well worth the effort. After taxes, he took home nearly $73,000.

That is one trip through the trash he probably does not regret.

Ocean Cleanup Effort Targets Los Angeles Waterways

Another good news story is coming from Los Angeles, where The Ocean Cleanup organization is working to remove trash from local rivers ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

The group is using a device called the Interceptor, designed to collect waste as it moves through waterways before it can reach the ocean.

The technology comes from the same organization working to tackle the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The Interceptor has already removed hundreds of tons of debris from Ballona Creek near Marina Del Rey. Officials are now looking at expanding the system to the San Gabriel River to help collect even more trash.

It is a major step toward cleaner waterways and a cleaner coastline.

Milwaukee Sanitation Workers Rescue Starving Dog

In Milwaukee, sanitation workers became heroes after discovering a starving dog buried inside a garbage bin during their route.

The workers rescued the dog and brought him to a shelter so he could receive the care he needed.

But the story gets even better. The supervisor who helped with the rescue later adopted the dog and named him PJ.

Now, PJ has a permanent home and a loving owner.

A Reminder That Good News Is Everywhere

Whether it is a lottery ticket saved from the trash, a cleaner future for local rivers, or a dog getting a second chance at life, these stories remind us that good things can happen in unexpected places.

And sometimes, one person taking action can make all the difference.
