Lee County Data Center Proposal Could Bring Major Investment

The Lee County Data Center Proposal could become one of the largest economic development projects in the region in recent years. Developers have submitted plans for a 300,000-square-foot facility in northern Lee County that would bring significant investment, new jobs, and additional tax revenue.

The proposed project would be developed by PointOne and eventually operated by CyrusOne, a company that manages dozens of data centers worldwide.

Nearly $900 Million Building Investment

According to project documents, the facility itself would be valued at approximately $900 million.

The technology and equipment housed inside the building could be worth several times that amount.

Officials estimate the project could generate at least $1 million annually in local tax revenue.

What Is a Data Center?

Data centers are specialized facilities that house servers and technology infrastructure supporting cloud computing, websites, streaming services, financial transactions, and other digital operations.

The Lee County Data Center Proposal reflects increasing demand for digital infrastructure throughout the United States.

Water and Power Questions Addressed

Developers say the facility would use a closed-loop cooling system that reuses water throughout the life of the project.

Project representatives also stated that the company would pay for much of the infrastructure needed to serve the facility, including electrical improvements.

No tax incentives are currently associated with the proposal.

Jobs and Future Development

The data center is expected to employ approximately 30 to 40 workers once operational while creating additional construction jobs during development.

The proposed site is part of a larger 430-acre property that could eventually support additional light industrial development.

What Happens Next?

If approved, construction could begin later this year with operations beginning in 2028.

The project is expected to remain a topic of discussion among residents as local officials continue reviewing plans and potential impacts.
