How the Aberdeen Facebook Marketplace Scam Happened
According to Aberdeen Police, the buyer met a woman in the parking lot after agreeing to purchase a PlayStation 5.
The victim reportedly handed over $300 cash and received a PlayStation 5 box.
After the seller left, the buyer discovered the box did not contain the gaming console.
Police launched an investigation using witness information, vehicle descriptions, and social media evidence.
Suspect Identified and Arrested

Investigators later identified 24-year-old Samiyah Brower of West End as the suspect.
Authorities obtained warrants charging her with felony obtaining property by false pretenses and conspiracy.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office eventually located Brower and took her into custody.
Tips for Safe Online Transactions
As online marketplace sales continue to grow across Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and Moore County, law enforcement encourages buyers to inspect items carefully before exchanging money.
Meeting in public places and verifying products before completing transactions can help reduce fraud risks.
Police say residents should immediately report suspicious transactions to local law enforcement.
