Updated Today • Sandhills, North Carolina

The Sandhills is starting the day under clear skies but cold conditions, as the region continues to recover from recent winter weather. While sunshine will help temperatures rebound this afternoon, icy spots remain a concern early, especially on secondary roads and shaded areas.

Today’s Forecast

Expect a bright but chilly day across Moore County and surrounding Sandhills communities. Morning wind chills were in the single digits, and while winds remain light, it will take time for temperatures to recover.

Afternoon highs will reach the upper 30s to near 40 degrees. Any melting that occurs will be limited, so caution is still advised when traveling or walking outdoors.

Tonight

Skies remain mostly clear tonight, allowing temperatures to drop quickly after sunset. Overnight lows will fall into the upper teens, leading to another widespread refreeze.

Icy patches are likely to redevelop late tonight and into early Thursday morning.

Midweek Outlook

Conditions slowly improve through midweek. Thursday brings partly sunny skies and a modest warm-up, with highs climbing into the low-to-mid 40s.

A chance of light rain arrives late Thursday night into Friday. Rainfall amounts are expected to be light, and no winter weather impacts are anticipated with this system.

Looking Toward the Weekend

The forecast turns quieter heading into the weekend. Temperatures continue to moderate, with daytime highs reaching the upper 40s to near 50 degrees by Saturday.

Overnight lows remain above freezing for most locations, reducing the risk of refreeze. Overall, the weekend looks calmer and more seasonable compared to the start of the week.

What to Keep in Mind

  • Watch for icy spots during early morning hours today and tonight
  • Allow extra time during commutes, especially on secondary roads
  • Gradual improvement is expected, but winter impacts linger early
