Spring Lake Man Arrested for Statutory Rape in Southern Pines

A Spring Lake man arrested for statutory rape in Southern Pines has shocked the Moore County community. Southern Pines Police Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old Jahmel Raemone Kegler on Thursday, charging him with statutory rape of a child under 15 years of age and indecent liberties with a child. This serious case highlights the ongoing work of local law enforcement to protect vulnerable residents in Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and across the Sandhills.

Details of the Arrest and Investigation

The investigation began October 7, 2025, when the Department of Social Services reported to SPPD that Kegler had an ongoing sexual relationship with a juvenile he allegedly impregnated. At the time of the report, the victim already had a 3-month-old child with Kegler. Warrants were secured, and investigators located and arrested Kegler without incident on Wednesday.

Kegler appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center without bond for the statutory rape charge. He received a $50,000 secured bond for indecent liberties with a child. Court dates are scheduled for March 18 and 19 in Moore County District Court.

Police Seek Community Assistance

SPPD Investigator J. Arnold is leading the case and asks anyone with additional information about these charges or any unreported incidents involving Kegler to come forward.
