Southern Pines U.S. 1 Crash Leads to Arrest of Sanford Woman

A major Southern Pines U.S. 1 crash arrest is drawing attention across Moore County after authorities say a Sanford woman fled from deputies before crashing into several vehicles Saturday morning. The wreck happened near Saunders Boulevard and injured multiple people, including a 1-year-old child.

According to Moore County officials, deputies attempted to stop a Chevrolet Impala near U.S. 1 and Magnolia Road in Aberdeen around 11 a.m. Saturday. Investigators say the driver sped away at a high rate of speed before crashing roughly a mile away in Southern Pines.

Multiple Injuries Reported in Southern Pines U.S. 1 Crash Arrest Case

Emergency crews from across the Sandhills responded to the scene. Officials said one passenger inside the Impala became trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued using hydraulic tools before being airlifted to a trauma center.

Three additional people were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, including the driver and a mother traveling with her 1-year-old child in another vehicle involved in the crash.

The incident caused heavy traffic delays along one of Moore County’s busiest corridors Saturday afternoon as emergency responders cleared the scene and investigators gathered evidence.

Driver Faces Multiple Charges

According to records at the Moore County Detention Center, 32-year-old Kendra Snipes of Sanford was arrested following the crash.

She faces several charges connected to the Southern Pines U.S. 1 crash arrest, including felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and providing fictitious information to an officer.

Authorities also cited the driver for a window tint violation.

Officials confirmed Snipes is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in Moore County District Court on June 3.

Traffic Safety Concerns Continue Along U.S. 1

The crash once again highlights ongoing safety concerns along the busy U.S. 1 corridor through Aberdeen and Southern Pines. The highway serves as a major route connecting the Sandhills region and regularly experiences heavy weekend traffic.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Moore County continue urging drivers to slow down, avoid reckless driving, and comply with traffic stops to prevent dangerous situations from escalating.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
