The Moore County Planning Board will hold two public hearings Thursday evening involving proposed residential and commercial development.
The hearings begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 3, in the Board of Commissioners Meeting Room on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse in Carthage.
Apartment proposal along N.C. 211
The first hearing concerns approximately 11.73 acres at 8003 N.C. Highway 211 in West End. The applicant is requesting that the property be changed from Residential and Agricultural zoning to Multifamily Conditional Zoning for a proposed apartment development.
The conditional-zoning process allows the county to review a proposal tied to a specific development plan and conditions. Properties along N.C. 211 and surrounding the site could be affected by the request.
Commercial zoning proposed along U.S. 1
The second hearing involves four adjacent properties at 5152, 5168, 5174 and 5200 U.S. Highway 1. Together, the parcels contain approximately 10.09 acres.
The request would place the properties in the county’s Highway Commercial, or B-2, zoning district. The county’s notice says properties along U.S. 1 and surrounding the proposed commercial area could be affected.
The Planning Board reviews rezoning and development requests and makes recommendations on many land-use matters. Residents may attend the hearings and provide comments under the board’s public-hearing procedures.
