Moore County K9 Anna Receives Ballistic Vest in Memory of Young Cancer Patient

Moore Sheriff K9 Anna

A Moore County law enforcement dog is now better protected thanks to a heartfelt tribute. The Moore County K9 Anna ballistic vest was donated through Brady’s K9 Fund in memory of 11-year-old Conner Crossen, a North Carolina boy remembered for his courage and his love for dogs.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office shared the news in a recent announcement, explaining that the protective vest will help keep K-9 Anna safe while assisting deputies throughout Moore County and the Sandhills region.

Moore County K9 Anna Ballistic Vest Honors Young Boy’s Legacy

The vest was donated in honor of Conner Crossen, an only child from Oak Ridge, North Carolina. Conner bravely battled cancer for two years before passing away at the age of 11.

During his treatments, Conner especially looked forward to visits from therapy dogs at the hospital. Even after his appointments ended, he would often wait just to see the dogs arrive.

In honor of his life and love for dogs, Conner’s grandmother began donating a ballistic vest each year to a North Carolina law enforcement K-9.

This year, the family selected K-9 Anna of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Protecting Law Enforcement Dogs in Moore County

Police K-9 units play an important role in communities across Moore County, assisting officers with search operations, suspect tracking, narcotics detection, and public safety responses.

Ballistic vests provide additional protection for these highly trained dogs while they perform their duties.

Organizations like Brady’s K9 Fund help provide protective gear to law enforcement agencies across the country, ensuring police dogs have the same level of safety equipment as their human partners.

The Moore County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Conner’s family for their generosity and for allowing K-9 Anna to carry on Conner’s legacy.

April 5 will mark Conner’s “Angel Anniversary,” making the tribute especially meaningful for his family and for the deputies who work alongside K-9 Anna every day.

Stories like this highlight the powerful connections between communities, law enforcement, and the animals that help keep people safe.
