Multiple Road Closures Begin Across the Sandhills

Drivers in Hoke, Harnett and Lee counties should prepare for detours as several road closures begin Monday, August 24.

Turnpike Road in Hoke County

A section of Turnpike Road near N.C. 211, also known as Aberdeen Road, closes beginning at 7 a.m.

The closure will allow crews to construct a new eastbound lane of N.C. 211 at the Turnpike Road intersection. The road is expected to reopen by October 7, weather permitting.

Traffic will be detoured using West Palmer Street, Laurinburg Road and Wallace McLean Road.

Overhills Road in Harnett County

A portion of Overhills Road near Elliott Bridge Road closes at 8 a.m. Monday and is expected to remain closed until Friday afternoon.

N.C. Department of Transportation crews will replace an existing 18-inch drainage pipe with a larger pipe to improve the amount of water that can safely pass beneath the roadway. The work is being completed before Overhills Road is resurfaced later this year.

The detour follows Lasater Road, N.C. 210 and Elliott Bridge Road.

Chisholm Street in Sanford

Crews will close Chisholm Street between Wilson and First streets for two days beginning Monday. The closure is necessary to relocate a water main as part of TriRiver Water’s sewer rehabilitation project in East Sanford.

Additional closures are planned later in the week around First Street and Charlotte Avenue. The Pilgrim’s Sanford Agricultural Marketplace will remain accessible during construction.

Drivers should allow extra travel time, follow posted detours and use caution around workers and equipment.
