Sandhills Sports Report: Pinecrest Prepares for Overhills; Union Pines Soccer Wins 8–1

Thursday, October 8, 2026 — Pinecrest and Union Pines are preparing for Friday night football, while Union Pines boys soccer added another victory Wednesday. Today’s Sandhills Sports Report also includes volleyball matchups and cross-country action involving Moore County schools.

Pinecrest Visits Overhills Friday Night

Pinecrest travels to Overhills on Friday, October 9, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Patriots enter the matchup at 3–3 after defeating Jack Britt 42–23 on October 2.

The win gave Pinecrest a 1–0 start in conference play. Friday’s road game gives the Patriots an opportunity to build on that conference-opening victory.

Union Pines Football Looks for Fifth Straight Win

Union Pines hosts Southern Lee on Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. The Vikings are 5–1 overall and 3–0 in conference play following last Friday’s 41–20 victory over Harnett Central.

Union Pines has won four consecutive games and will look to extend that streak while protecting its unbeaten conference record.

Vikings Soccer Rolls Past South Johnston

Union Pines boys soccer defeated South Johnston 8–1 on Wednesday, October 7, extending its winning streak to four matches.

The Vikings improved to 9–4–3 overall. Their next scheduled match is at home against Harnett Central on Monday, October 12, at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday Volleyball Across Moore County

Pinecrest hosts Richmond Senior tonight, October 8, with the varsity match scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Union Pines welcomes Western Harnett at 5:45 p.m. The Vikings have won three straight matches after edging Lee County three sets to two on Tuesday, October 6.

North Moore travels to Southwestern Randolph, with varsity volleyball scheduled for 6:15 p.m.

North Moore Cross Country and Football

North Moore’s boys and girls cross-country teams compete at Jordan-Matthews this afternoon, October 8, at 4:30 p.m.

In football, the Mustangs have an open date Friday. Their next scheduled game is at Northwood on Friday, October 16, at 7 p.m.
