Police in Rockingham say technology helped officers quickly recover a stolen motorcycle connected to a case out of Stanly County. The Rockingham stolen-motorcycle arrest occurred on Friday after officers reportedly received an alert from the Flock camera system.
According to the Rockingham Police Department, officers were notified that a motorcycle reported stolen in Stanly County had entered the area. Police began patrolling near Rockingham Road and Pickett Street, where officers later found the motorcycle and a suspect matching the description tied to the vehicle.
Police Say Suspect Refused Commands
Authorities identified the suspect as 53-year-old Darrell Evans Little of Ellerbe. Police say Little allegedly refused several commands while officers attempted to detain him before taking him into custody.
Little was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Records show he was released on a $10,000 secured bond. He is expected to appear in court on May 28.
The Rockingham stolen motorcycle arrest also drew attention because of the suspect’s extensive criminal history. State correction records show convictions dating back more than 30 years, including felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, drug offenses, and breaking charges.
Flock Camera Technology Expanding Across North Carolina
The case also highlights the growing use of Flock camera systems in communities across North Carolina. The technology uses license plate recognition and real-time alerts to help law enforcement locate stolen vehicles and investigate crimes.
Many departments across Moore County, Richmond County, and surrounding Sandhills communities are increasingly relying on surveillance technology to assist with investigations and improve response times.
Supporters say the systems help police solve crimes faster, while critics continue raising concerns about privacy and surveillance.
The Rockingham Police Department has not released additional details about the stolen motorcycle investigation at this time.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
