A Spring Lake man arrested for statutory rape in Southern Pines has shocked the Moore County community. Southern Pines Police Department announced the arrest of 27-year-old Jahmel Raemone Kegler on Thursday, charging him with statutory rape of a child under 15 years of age and indecent liberties with a child. Details of the Arrest and Investigation

The investigation began October 7, 2025, when the Department of Social Services reported to SPPD that Kegler had an ongoing sexual relationship with a juvenile he allegedly impregnated. At the time of the report, the victim already had a 3-month-old child with Kegler. Warrants were secured, and investigators located and arrested Kegler without incident on Wednesday.

Kegler appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County Detention Center without bond for the statutory rape charge. He received a $50,000 secured bond for indecent liberties with a child. Court dates are scheduled for March 18 and 19 in Moore County District Court.
