Moore County is positioning itself as a leader in renewable and biobased industries after securing a $75,000 federal grant aimed at attracting new economic development.

The Moore County Economic Development Partnership received the funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Business Development Grant program.

What Is a Biofuel Development Opportunity Zone?

The grant will fund a Biofuel Development Opportunity Zone Rating, a nationally recognized certification that evaluates a region’s ability to support biobased manufacturing, clean energy, and sustainability-focused industries.

If successful, Moore County would become the first county in North Carolina to earn this designation.

Focus on Northern Moore County

The evaluation will center around Robbins and northern Moore County, areas known for strong woody biomass resources and existing infrastructure that supports manufacturing and logistics.

Officials say the certification will reduce investor risk, attract high-quality jobs, and help diversify the local economy.

The year-long assessment will be conducted by Ecostrat, a national firm specializing in biomass supply chain analysis..
