Overnight U.S. 1 Lane Closures Continue in Aberdeen and Southern Pines

Drivers traveling through Aberdeen and Southern Pines should expect continued overnight lane closures along U.S. 1 as utility work progresses on a major future road improvement project.

Where and When the Closures Are Happening

According to state transportation officials, two sections of U.S. 1 are affected: from Roseland Road to U.S. 15-501, and from West Main Street in Aberdeen to Old U.S. 1 in Southern Pines. Closures are taking place nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and have been extended through Saturday, February 21 due to winter weather delays.

Why the Work Is Happening

The utility relocations are considered pre-work for a larger North Carolina Department of Transportation project that will introduce reduced-conflict intersections. The design includes center medians and designated U-turn areas intended to improve traffic flow and reduce crashes.

Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detours and use caution while traveling through active construction zones.
