A Sunday afternoon in a Moore County neighborhood turned chaotic after a juvenile reportedly took a family member’s van and damaged several properties.
The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the Sinclair community near Mount Pleasant. The juvenile reportedly left a residence in the 300 block of Turriff Way and began driving through the neighborhood at a high rate of speed.
A Moore County Sheriff’s Office unit pursued the van through the community. The pursuit ended in the front yard of a residence on South Prince Henry Way.
Authorities said at least two homes were struck during the incident. One garage sustained structural damage, while several mailboxes and a vehicle parked in a driveway were also hit. The juvenile reportedly drove through a garage door while initially leaving the residence.
The van sustained significant damage, including a blown tire, a broken rear window and a severe oil leak.
The juvenile was transported to Moore Regional Hospital for treatment and evaluation. No injuries to neighborhood residents were reported.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded and investigated the incident. Because the individual involved is a juvenile, additional information may be limited.
