Two-Year Narcotics Investigation Leads to Major Drug Arrest in Scotland County

LAURINBURG, N.C. — A lengthy narcotics investigation in Scotland County has resulted in the arrest of a Laurinburg man and the seizure of thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal drugs.

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies arrested Dablenski “Hog” McNair after executing a search warrant in the 200 block of East Covington Street in the Washington Park area. The arrest followed a two-year investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity.

Authorities say deputies seized approximately 752 grams of suspected pure cocaine, estimated to have a street value of $62,000. Investigators also recovered fentanyl, methamphetamine, marijuana, narcotic pills, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm.

Lieutenant Earl Haywood Jr., a veteran narcotics investigator, said McNair had been on law enforcement’s radar for several years. McNair is a convicted felon and previously faced felony cocaine trafficking charges in 2018.

“These cases take time,” Haywood said. “We can’t make miracles overnight, but this arrest shows the importance of continued, proactive law enforcement efforts.”

McNair faces multiple felony charges, including trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and maintaining a dwelling for drug distribution.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Scotland County once ranked among the highest in the state for overdose deaths. Law enforcement officials say removing these drugs from the streets could potentially save lives.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities say additional charges are possible.
