WEST END, NC — A proposed neighborhood development near the Seven Lakes area will be reviewed later than originally scheduled.
A public hearing tied to a proposed 68-lot subdivision planned along Holly Grove School Road in West End has been postponed and is now expected to be heard in early February.
The hearing was originally scheduled for the Moore County Board of Commissioners meeting on January 6, but the applicant requested a delay. The review is now anticipated for February 3, pending confirmation by county commissioners.
The proposed project site is located west of the Seven Lakes North community, east of McLendon Hills, and north of N.C. 211. County officials note that the final outcome will be decided through a quasi-judicial process, which means the decision must be based on evidence and applied standards — such as development ordinances and land-use rules — rather than public opinion.
The timing is notable following recent county debate over subdivision rules connected to nearby gated communities. That separate ordinance issue was rejected by commissioners in late 2025, after residents raised concerns about how future subdivision changes could affect neighborhood character and long-term growth patterns.
County commissioners will determine next month whether the postponed hearing will move forward on the new date — and whether the proposed development meets local requirements.
