Dangerous Heat Arrives Friday and Saturday
The biggest weather story will be the increasing heat heading into the weekend. Friday is expected to reach 97 degrees under mostly sunny skies. While a stray afternoon thunderstorm is possible, most communities across the Sandhills will stay dry.
Saturday could be the hottest day of the forecast period with temperatures approaching 100 degrees. Heat index values may climb even higher, making it feel several degrees warmer during the afternoon.
Residents should take extra precautions by drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding prolonged outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
Storm Chances Return Late Weekend
A few scattered thunderstorms may develop Saturday night, followed by another chance for afternoon storms on Sunday. Rain coverage appears limited, meaning many locations may remain dry while a few communities see brief downpours and lightning.
Even with storm chances returning, temperatures on Sunday are still expected to reach the mid-90s.
