As icy conditions linger on secondary roads across the Sandhills, several school districts and private schools have announced schedule changes for Wednesday, February 4. Officials say decisions are being made with student transportation safety in mind, especially for bus routes in rural areas.
Moore County Schools
Moore County Schools will continue on a remote learning day on Wednesday, February 4. Bus pickup times and school start times will be delayed by two hours from the normal schedule.
Employees may report on their regular schedule if they feel it is safe to do so, or follow the Inclement Weather Plan.
Cumberland County Schools
Cumberland County Schools will continue asynchronous remote learning for students on Wednesday. No live classes are required, and students may complete assignments at their own pace.
District and school offices will open on a two-hour delay for select employees, while all after-school activities and Prime Time programs are canceled.
Lee County Schools
Lee County Schools will operate on a remote learning day for students on Wednesday. Secondary roads and neighborhoods remain icy, particularly for school buses and student drivers.
Staff will have an optional workday beginning at 9:00 a.m., with telework available when needed.
Richmond County Schools
Richmond County Schools will remain on a remote instructional day for students on Wednesday. Staff will have an optional workday with a two-hour delay.
District officials say an update for Thursday will be shared no later than 5:00 p.m.
Scotland County Schools
Scotland County Schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, with no remote learning required.
Staff will have an optional workday with a two-hour delay. All extracurricular activities and driver’s education are canceled.
Charter & Private Schools
Star Charter School will operate on a remote learning day on Wednesday. Families were also notified that Monday, February 9, will be a regular school day to make up for lost instructional time.
Grace Christian School will operate on a two-hour delay on Wednesday. Adjusted start times are staggered by grade level, and student transportation will run on the delayed schedule.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reports that many secondary roads across the Sandhills remain partially cleared, with lingering ice and slush creating hazardous conditions, particularly during early morning hours.
