O’Neal School Paratrooper Incident in Southern Pines Ends Safely

A planned military demonstration turned into a dramatic moment during the O’Neal School paratrooper incident Southern Pines experienced on April 15. A sudden gust of wind pushed an experienced paratrooper into nearby trees during a “Purple Up” event honoring military families.

The demonstration, featuring members of a U.S. Army Special Forces team, was scheduled to land on the school’s soccer field. However, changing wind conditions made the landing more difficult than expected.

What Happened During the Paratrooper Incident

During the O’Neal School paratrooper incident Southern Pines, team lead Bo Kinnison became entangled in trees just short of the landing zone. Despite having thousands of jumps under his belt, Kinnison said the wind shift left him with little control.

First responders from the Southern Pines Fire Department quickly arrived on scene and safely rescued the paratrooper. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A Memorable Moment for Students

While unexpected, the O’Neal School paratrooper incident Southern Pines became a memorable part of the day for students and families attending the event. Organizers emphasized that safety protocols were followed, and the situation was handled professionally.

The “Purple Up” event celebrates military families and their contributions, bringing together the community in a meaningful way. Even with the mishap, attendees were able to enjoy the demonstration and learn more about military service.

Looking Ahead

Kinnison expressed confidence in returning to future demonstrations, noting that incidents like this are rare. He is expected to participate in upcoming events, including a planned jump at the Fair Barn in Pinehurst.
