Having grown up in Pinebluff tinkering on his father’s radios, turntables and reel-to-reel tape decks, Curtiss discovered his love for music and electronics at an early age. He took is first radio station tour at age 14, and his pathway became clear. Over the next three years, he pursued his broadcast license and landed his first official job as DJ at WIOZ. This launched the moniker King Curtiss and a music career even more rewarding than he had imagined.
In addition to his work on the air, Curtiss has a mobile DJ business and has enjoyed playing in nightclubs, weddings, parties and copious other special events. His love for music goes beyond the spectrum of mixing tunes. As a producer and promoter, he has found many to express himself musically. Some of his favorite projects include founding the Carolina Beach Music Awards show which he and his family still put on every November, and working in the recording studio on scores of CDs for most of the artists that he admired during his childhood. He married the love of his life, Amanda Hood in 2017, and is the proud father of two stepdaughters and a golden retriever Virgil, named after his father. He currently hosts King Curtiss’ Beach club on Star 102.5FM every Sunday and “the Git Up” on 550AM, weekdays from 6am-9am.
