Moore County officials are urging residents to prepare for winter weather and plan to stay off the roads as a significant storm approaches the Sandhills this weekend.

The county says a warming shelter is expected to open late Friday afternoon at the Moore County Parks and Recreation building in Carthage.

County Leaders Stress Safety and Preparedness

County officials recommend finishing storm preparations by Friday evening and remaining home through at least Monday.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local media, the National Weather Service, and Moore County Emergency Management.

What to Include in a Winter Emergency Kit

Moore County Public Safety recommends having water, non-perishable food, pet supplies, flashlights, phone chargers, blankets, and first aid items ready.

Officials also remind drivers that vehicles marked with yellow caution tape have already been checked by first responders and are not emergencies.
