Moore County Leaders to Review Subdivision and Highway-Development Rules

Moore County commissioners and members of the county Planning Board will meet jointly Monday evening to continue discussing rules that could shape future development across unincorporated portions of the county.

The special meeting begins at 5 p.m. Monday, October 26, in the second-floor Community Room of the Rick Rhyne Public Safety Center, located at 302 South McNeill Street in Carthage.

Three development topics on the agenda

According to the official meeting notice, county leaders will discuss regulations covering major subdivisions, minor subdivisions and the Highway Corridor Overlay District.

Subdivision regulations establish requirements for creating new residential lots and larger developments. The Highway Corridor Overlay District adds development standards along portions of major roads outside municipal limits.

Growth debate continues

The work session comes as Moore County continues evaluating how its development rules should address population growth, road capacity, emergency access, water and sewer service, farmland preservation and nearby property owners.

The public notice describes the meeting as a discussion session and does not advertise a final vote. Any proposed ordinance changes requiring formal hearings or additional approval would move through the applicable public-review process.
