Jenny Purvis to assume interim leadership role beginning March 1, 2026

The Moore County Board of Education has named longtime educator and district leader Jenny Purvis as Interim Superintendent of Moore County Schools, effective March 1, 2026. The decision was announced following a special called meeting held on December 17, 2025.

Board Chair Dr. Robin Calcutt praised Purvis’s extensive experience and leadership, highlighting her more than 31 years of service with Moore County Schools. Her career spans classroom instruction, school leadership, and district-level executive administration.

“Mrs. Purvis is a transformational educational leader with more than 31 years of experience in Moore County Schools… She has high expectations, builds strong relationships, and develops systems for long-term success,” said Dr. Calcutt.

Purvis currently serves as Assistant Superintendent for Operations, overseeing facilities, construction, maintenance, transportation, child nutrition, and driver education. She has also played a key role in large-scale capital planning and district operations.

A graduate of Moore County Schools, Purvis brings both deep institutional knowledge and a strong personal connection to the district she will lead during this transition period.

“I appreciate the Board’s confidence and look forward to providing stability and support to our district while keeping student success at the center of every decision,” said Purvis. “Moore County Schools was home to my K–12 education and has also been home to my professional career for more than three decades.”

Purvis will serve as Interim Superintendent through June 30, 2026, while the Board of Education continues its search for a permanent superintendent.

Following the announcement, the Board heard presentations from four superintendent search firms interested in assisting with the search process. The Board recessed the meeting to review the information and will reconvene on Friday, December 19, at 1:00 p.m.

The meeting will take place in the Boardroom of the Central Office at 5277 U.S. 15-501 South in Carthage. Those unable to attend in person can watch via livestream on the Moore County Schools YouTube channel.
