Moore County Firefighter and Wife Rescue Two People from Burning Car After New Year’s Day Crash

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — A Moore County firefighter and his wife are being credited with quick action that helped save two people following a fiery crash just after midnight on New Year’s Day.

Emergency crews were called to a crash at the intersection of Hilmongrove and Cameronhill roads where a vehicle had struck a tree. Officials said the car caught fire and a small grass fire also burned nearby.

Before responders arrived, Dylan Turney and his wife, Kiersten, who live near the crash scene, moved to help. Officials said the couple safely removed two people from the vehicle as the fire began. Turney is a volunteer firefighter with the Crains Creek Fire Department and a full-time firefighter with Spout Springs Emergency Services.

Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly. The two crash victims were transported to the hospital by EMS. Their conditions have not been released.
