Mid South Southern Pines shooting arrest: Teen charged as adult

The Mid South Southern Pines shooting arrest has led to a 17-year-old being taken into custody following a January gunfire incident in the Mid South community.

According to the Southern Pines Police Department, officers responded to a reported shots-fired call on January 11 at 24 Plantation Drive. Upon arrival, investigators determined that both a residence and a vehicle had been damaged by gunfire.

Charges filed against a juvenile

Police say the suspect, whose name has not been released due to age, is being charged as an adult after consultation with the Moore County District Attorney’s Office.

The charges include felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Arrest made without incident

Authorities report the Mid South Southern Pines shooting arrest was completed without incident. The teen was transported to the Moore County Magistrate’s Office and is being held at a juvenile detention facility without bond.

Investigators emphasized the shooting was not considered random and that there is no known ongoing threat to residents in the Mid South community.

Police are still seeking information

While an arrest has been made, Southern Pines Police encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
