191 years ago – In 1835, Andrew Jackson became the first President to survive an assassination attempt.  He was attacked by a guy with a pair of pistols that BOTH misfired . . . so the 67-year-old president beat him with his walking stick.

93 years ago – In 1933, The Lone Ranger was heard on the radio for the first time.  It ran for 2,956 episodes . . . before ending 22 years later in 1955.

78 years ago – In 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by an extremist who opposed his efforts to end a civil war between Muslims and Hindus.

57 years ago – In 1969, The Beatles made their final public appearance as a group . . . performing on the roof of Apple Studios in London.  The show was stopped when police arrived after neighbors complained about the noise.

54 years ago – In 1972, British soldiers in Northern Ireland killed 13 Catholic civil rights marchers on what became known as “Bloody Sunday“.  U2 wrote ***”Sunday Bloody Sunday“***about it.

53 years ago – In 1973, KISS played their first concert.  It was at a place called the Popcorn Club and they earned $50 performing for less than 10 people.

49 years ago – In 1977, “The Hardy Boys Mysteries” debuted on ABC.  It starred Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy as the teen detectives from Franklin W. Dixon’s classic mystery novels.

43 years ago – In 1983, the Washington Redskins beat the Miami Dolphins 27-to-17 in Super Bowl 17.  Washington running back John Riggins set a Super Bowl record with 166 yards on 38 carries, and was voted the game’s MVP.

35 years ago – In 1991, the first major ground battle of the Gulf War was fought at the frontier port of Khafji in Saudi Arabia.  Twelve U.S. Marines were killed.

32 years ago – In 1994, the Dallas Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills, 30-to-13, to win Super Bowl 28.  Dallas running back Emmitt Smith was MVP, and the Bills lost their fourth straight Super Bowl.

This was also the game where Emmitt Smith had his helmet stolen.  It was returned to him a couple weeks later following an anonymous phone call.

31 years ago – In 1995, Boyz II Men won three awards at the 22nd annual American Music Awards.  Reba McEntireMichael Bolton and Ace Of Base each received two awards.  Tim McGraw was the favorite New Country Artist.

26 years ago – In 2000, the St. Louis Rams beat the Tennessee Titans, 23-to-16, to win Super Bowl 34.  St. Louis quarterback Kurt Warner passed for a record 414 yards and was named the MVP.

20 years ago – In 2006, Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow, Coretta Scott Kingdied at age 78.

19 years ago – In 2007, Katharine McPhee released her self-titled album, featuring Over It.  The album came out eight months after losing the fifth season of “American Idol” to forgotten “Idol” winner Taylor Hicks.

Eiza Gonzalez is 36.  Carlala in “Welcome to Marwen”, and Madame M in “Hobbes & Shaw”.

Kylie Bunbury is 37.  Eva Sinclair on “Under the Dome”, and Ginny Baker on “Pitch”.  She’s also in the Netflix miniseries about the Central Park Five, called When They See Us.

Kid Cudi is 42.  Rapper who cursed us all with “Day ‘n’ Nite”, and does some acting under his real name:  Scott Mescudi.

Wilmer Fernando Lamas Valderrama is 46. Nick Torres on “NCIS”.  But to ME he’ll always be Fez on “That ’70s Show”.

Josh Kelley is 46.  His singing career has already been completely overshadowed by his younger brother Charles Kelley, who sings for Lady A.  Josh is married to Katherine Heigl.

Andy Milonakis is 50.  That’s right.  He’s 46 and still looks 16.  MTV comedian.

Christian Bale is 52.  Dick Cheney in “Vice”.  They share the same birthdate.

Despite his anger issues, Bale is still an AWESOME guy who’s visited victims of the “Dark Knight Rises” shooting in Aurora Colorado, flown a 4-year-old cancer patient and his family to Disneyland to spend the day with his own family, and placed a nine-minute call to an eight-year-old leukemia patient.

Olivia Colman is 52.  Queen Elizabeth on “The Crown”.  She was also Queen Anne in that movie “The Favourite”.

Brett Butler is 68.  “Grace Under Fire”.

Charles S. Dutton is 75.  Dillon, the leader of the inmates in “Alien 3”.  He was also the groundskeeper in “Rudy”, and the star of the ’90s sitcom “Roc”.

Mr. Dutton developed his passion for theater while serving a seven-and-a-half year sentence for fatally stabbing a man in a street fight.  He also did a two-year college degree course while in the joint.

Phil Collins is 75.  Biggest hits: In the Air TonightAgainst All OddsAnother Day in ParadiseEasy Lover, and Sussudio.

He’s also got Grammys for the song Two Hearts and the “Tarzan” soundtrack.  And he has an Oscar for the “Tarzan” song You’ll Be in My Heart.

Darth Cheney is 85.  Some people call him Dick.  I know the guy he shot in the face with a shotgun does.

Vanessa Redgrave is 89.  Real life mom of “Nip/Tuck” star Joely Richardson . . . Joely’s sister, the late Natasha Richardson . . . who was Liam Neeson’s wife.

Gene Hackman  (1930 – 2025)  He IS Lex Luthor in the original “Superman” and “Superman II”.

He’s also the Blind Man in “Young Frankenstein”.   Other movies Gene Hackman made great:  “Enemy of the State”“Absolute Power”“Get Shorty”“Crimson Tide”“Wyatt Earp”“The Firm”“Unforgiven”“No Way Out”“Mississippi Burning”“Hoosiers”“The Poseidon Adventure”“The Royal Tenenbaums”, and “The French Connection”.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt  (1882 – 1945)  32nd President.  He was elected to office FOUR times.  FDR had polio.  He married his cousin Eleanor.  He’s also the guy on all the dimes.  And he told us, “The only thing we have to fear . . . is fear itself.

Payne Stewart  (1957 – 1999)  Sharp-dressed golfer who died in a bizarre plane accident where the pilots lost consciousness due to lack of oxygen in the cabin.
