Columbus Drive Closure Begins Monday Night in Aberdeen

Drivers in Aberdeen should prepare for a new long-term detour beginning Monday night as work continues on the U.S. 15-501 improvement project.

Closure Begins at 8 P.M.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Sandhills project alert, Columbus Drive will close near Aberdeen Pines Way between U.S. 15-501 and South Hill Road.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Monday, October 5, for storm-drainage work. It is expected to remain in effect through 6 a.m. Monday, November 30.

Detour Route

Drivers needing to reach Columbus Drive will be detoured through U.S. 15-501, Johnson Street and South Hill Road. Motorists should allow extra time and watch for changing construction signs.

NCDOT also advises drivers to expect intermittent single-lane closures in both directions on U.S. 15-501 between Turner Street and U.S. 1. Those closures are scheduled overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
