ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Latham Pool Products could have additional room to grow its Richmond County operations following Rockingham City Council’s approval of a land sale in Industrial Park West.
The city has approved selling approximately 30 acres to the pool-products manufacturer for $150,000. The property is located near the company’s existing Rockingham operation and would provide space that could support a future expansion.
Industrial property approved for sale
The Richmond Observer reports that council members approved the transaction at their latest meeting. The city’s July meeting materials identify Latham Pool Products as the buyer and list the purchase price at $150,000.
Latham Pool Products already operates in Rockingham Industrial Park West, making the adjoining acreage strategically useful if the company moves ahead with expanding its local footprint. The approval allows the land transaction to proceed, but it does not by itself establish the size or schedule of a future construction project.
Expansion details have not been announced
No firm information has been released regarding the number of jobs that could be created, the company’s anticipated capital investment or when development of the property might begin. Those details would be important in determining the eventual economic impact of the transaction.
For now, the confirmed action is the city’s approval to sell the roughly 30-acre tract. Any additional facilities, equipment investments or hiring plans would require a separate announcement from Latham Pool Products or local economic-development officials.
Why the transaction matters to Rockingham
Industrial land availability plays an important role in retaining and expanding existing manufacturers. When a company already operating in a community needs additional acreage, access to nearby property can help it consider growth without relocating its operation elsewhere.
The sale also continues development within Rockingham Industrial Park West, which is home to several industrial operations. Existing infrastructure and proximity to the company’s current facility could make the newly approved property useful for future manufacturing, storage or other operational needs.
However, the land sale should be viewed as an early economic-development step rather than a completed expansion announcement. No job commitments, construction timetable or investment total accompanied the council’s approval.
What happens next?
Attention will now turn to the completion of the property transaction and whether Latham Pool Products releases more specific plans for the site. Future development could also require the usual planning, permitting and construction approvals, depending on how the company intends to use the acreage.
Additional announcements from the company or the city will help clarify what the sale means for employment and manufacturing activity in Rockingham and Richmond County.
