Sandhills Weekend Weather: Heat Builds Toward 100 Degrees This Weekend

The Sandhills weekend weather forecast is bringing plenty of sunshine along with some of the hottest temperatures we’ve seen so far this year. Residents across Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Carthage, and Moore County should prepare for a stretch of summer heat that could push temperatures near the century mark by Saturday.

Sunny and Pleasant Through Thursday

Wednesday will be sunny with a high near 89 degrees and light winds. Conditions remain comfortable by late June standards with low humidity and overnight temperatures falling into the mid-60s.

Thursday continues the warming trend with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching the lower 90s. Morning temperatures will be pleasant before the afternoon heat begins to build.

Dangerous Heat Arrives Friday and Saturday

The biggest weather story will be the increasing heat heading into the weekend. Friday is expected to reach 97 degrees under mostly sunny skies. While a stray afternoon thunderstorm is possible, most communities across the Sandhills will stay dry.

Saturday could be the hottest day of the forecast period with temperatures approaching 100 degrees. Heat index values may climb even higher, making it feel several degrees warmer during the afternoon.

Residents should take extra precautions by drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing, and avoiding prolonged outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.

Storm Chances Return Late Weekend

A few scattered thunderstorms may develop Saturday night, followed by another chance for afternoon storms on Sunday. Rain coverage appears limited, meaning many locations may remain dry while a few communities see brief downpours and lightning.

Even with storm chances returning, temperatures on Sunday are still expected to reach the mid-90s.

What This Means for Moore County

The combination of hot temperatures and strong June sunshine means residents should monitor heat-related illnesses and check on neighbors, pets, and elderly family members.

If you’re heading to local events, golf courses, parks, or lakes across Moore County this weekend, plan for frequent breaks in the shade and plenty of hydration.

The overall forecast points toward a classic Sandhills summer weekend: lots of sunshine, intense heat, and just enough storm chances to keep an eye on the sky.
