Two family pets are safe today thanks to the quick response of firefighters during a Cameron house fire pets rescued incident Monday night near the Harnett County line.

According to the Crains Creek Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 8:43 p.m. to a home on Heritage Way, just outside Cameron. When firefighters arrived, they found an active fire overtaking the structure.

While battling flames, crews conducted both primary and secondary searches of the home. During those searches, they located a dog and a small cat still inside.

Oxygen Therapy Saves Pets in Cameron House Fire

Firefighters quickly removed both animals from the smoke-filled home and began oxygen therapy on scene. The department reported that both pets showed improvement after receiving oxygen.

“Both animals received oxygen therapy and showed improvement, and were subsequently entrusted to nearby neighbors for care until the owners arrived home,” the Crains Creek Fire Department stated.

The response highlights the importance of emergency crews carrying pet oxygen masks and being trained to treat animals during structure fires.

Multiple Agencies Respond to Heritage Way Fire

Several departments worked together to bring the blaze under control, including Spout Springs Emergency Services, Crains Creek Fire Department, Anderson Creek Emergency Services, Benhaven Emergency Services, and Fort Bragg Emergency Services.

Although the structure sustained heavy damage, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.

Fires can spread rapidly, especially during colder months when heating equipment is in use. Fire officials encourage residents across Cameron, Moore County, and surrounding Sandhills communities to check smoke alarms regularly and review home fire safety plans.
