U.S. Kids Golf World Championship Returns to Pinehurst

The event regularly draws players, relatives, spectators and local residents into the village. Businesses and restaurants throughout Pinehurst are preparing for increased activity as families explore the area between tournament events.

The Village of Pinehurst Welcome Center is also open inside the Theatre Building at 90 Cherokee Road. The center will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday for the Parade of Nations.

Championship Rounds Begin Thursday

Official practice rounds for the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship Pinehurst field will be held Wednesday at participating championship courses.

The first round begins at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, July 30. The second round is scheduled for Friday, followed by the final round Saturday, August 1.

An awards ceremony is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at Pinecrest High School. The World Van Horn Cup will conclude the week Sunday morning at Pinehurst No. 4.

Drivers Should Expect Additional Traffic

Residents and commuters should expect additional traffic around Pinehurst Resort, Midland Road, Highway 5 and the golf courses hosting tournament play.

The U.S. Kids Golf World Championship in Pinehurst provides young players with an international competition experience while bringing visitors from around the world to the Sandhills.

Drivers are encouraged to allow additional travel time, watch for pedestrians and remain alert near tournament entrances throughout the week.

SBI Investigating Death at Moore County Detention Center

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the death of a 52-year-old woman at the Moore County Detention Center on Thursday, September 10. According to a sheriff’s office statement reported by Sandhills Sentinel, Christy White used an intercom to report difficulty breathing around 3 a.m. Staff responding to her cell found her unresponsive on her bed. Detention employees began lifesaving efforts, which Moore County EMS continued. White was pronounced dead despite those efforts.
