A large water-main break damaged a roadway and interrupted service for some Southern Pines water customers Monday night.

The break was reported near the intersection of Yadkin Road and Boiling Spring Circle on October 19. Town Water Department crews were at the scene by approximately 9:30 p.m., working to control the water, assess the damage and begin emergency repairs.

Yadkin Road Closed Near Boiling Spring Circle

Water from the broken main damaged the roadway, requiring officials to close the affected section of Yadkin Road. Drivers should avoid the intersection and use an alternate route until the town confirms that the roadway is safe.

The closure could affect Tuesday-morning traffic if repairs continue into the commute. Officials had not announced an estimated reopening time in the latest available report.

Outages and Low Pressure Reported

The problems extend beyond the roadway. Some Southern Pines customers reported losing water service completely, while others experienced reduced pressure.

The town had not released an estimate of how many customers were affected or identified the full boundaries of the service disruption. No estimated restoration time was included in the initial update.

Residents should monitor official Town of Southern Pines communications for restoration information and any water-use instructions that may be issued. Customers should not assume that a precautionary advisory is in effect unless the town specifically announces one.

Emergency Repairs Continue

The Town of Southern Pines provides an after-hours emergency number for water and sewer problems. Customers who need to report an outage or related emergency may call 910-692-1627.

Additional information about the municipal system is available through the town’s Water and Sewer Department webpage.

Motorists should continue avoiding Yadkin Road near Boiling Spring Circle until officials announce that the roadway has reopened.
