Pinehurst Launches Traffic-Safety Campaign Targeting Speeding

Drivers in Pinehurst can expect increased patrols and targeted traffic enforcement under a new campaign intended to reduce speeding on village streets.

The Village of Pinehurst and Pinehurst Police Department have launched “Slow Down, Pinehurst,” according to Moore County News.

Education, Data and Enforcement

The campaign combines driver education, traffic data and police enforcement. Portable speed-display signs will show motorists their speed while collecting information about traffic patterns.

Police say speeding is particularly dangerous on streets shared by vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and golf carts. Higher speeds increase stopping distances and can make crashes more severe.

Residents Can Request Speed Monitoring

Residents concerned about speeding can request a portable display sign through the MyVOP application. The requests will help officials identify locations that may need additional monitoring.

Police are asking motorists to follow posted limits, avoid distractions and leave enough travel time to avoid rushing.
