Sandhills “HOME” Public-Art Installations Debut in Robbins and Pinehurst

A countywide public-art project will unveil its first two installations in Robbins and Pinehurst during the next several days.

The Moore County Tourism Development Authority’s “HOME” project commissioned five artists to create pieces for Robbins, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Carthage and Southern Pines.

First unveiling scheduled in Robbins

The first installation will be dedicated in downtown Robbins on Thursday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m. Metalworks sculptor Mac Metz created the piece, which is part of the tourism authority’s campaign celebrating the communities and character of Moore County.

Second installation coming to Sandhills Horticultural Gardens

A second public dedication is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Sandhills Horticultural Gardens in Pinehurst.

Sandhills Community College artist Luke Huling created the ceramic artwork from North Carolina clay. Its letters feature Sandhills plants and animals, including longleaf pine cones, anoles and red-cockaded woodpeckers.

Future installations are planned for Aberdeen, Carthage and Southern Pines.
