Law-enforcement agencies are investigating three separate weekend shootings in Richmond County that injured five people, including two boys.
The violence prompted Richmond County Schools to request an additional police presence at Rockingham Middle School on Monday as a precaution.
Two boys wounded on Hunter Circle
According to WSOC-TV, two boys were struck by gunfire early Sunday on Hunter Circle in Rockingham. One of the victims was identified as a 13-year-old. Police said their injuries did not appear to be serious.
Two adults were also wounded when shots were fired on Cauthen Drive. Authorities have not publicly released their names or provided detailed information about their conditions.
Sheriff’s office investigating third shooting
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is separately investigating a shooting on Nannie Lane near U.S. 74. One man was wounded and is expected to recover.
Rockingham Police said the two shootings inside the city do not appear to be connected. Police reportedly have identified a suspect in each city case, but no arrests had been announced as of Monday evening.
