Pinehurst Outlines Growth Policy Focused on Preserving Village Character

The Village of Pinehurst is taking steps to clearly define how future growth should occur, emphasizing preservation of character, quality of life, and intentional development.

Village leaders recently reviewed a draft growth policy that outlines guiding principles for development, redevelopment, and annexation across Pinehurst.

No “Growth for Growth’s Sake”

According to the draft policy, Pinehurst does not seek unchecked expansion. Instead, new development should enhance livability, respect historic context, and strengthen the community.

The guidance addresses infill development, rural residential areas, and redevelopment zones such as Village Place and Pinehurst South.

Voluntary Annexation Emphasized

Village officials also clarified that annexation would remain voluntary and evaluated case by case, reinforcing transparency and resident choice.

The finalized growth policy is expected to return to council for approval in an upcoming meeting.
