Woman and Dog Killed in Pinehurst Golf-Cart Crash
A woman and a dog were killed, and a man was seriously injured, in a Thursday morning collision involving a golf cart and an SUV in Pinehurst.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:51 a.m. September 17 at the intersection of N.C. 5, also known as Beulah Hill Road, and Shaw Road Southwest. Preliminary information gathered at the scene indicated that the golf cart was crossing N.C. 5 when it entered the path of a northbound Hyundai Kona.
The woman riding as a passenger in the golf cart was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the cart was airlifted to UNC Hospitals with serious injuries. A dog riding in the golf cart was also killed.
The driver of the Hyundai was transported to a hospital. Officials had not released information about that driver’s condition as of Friday morning.
N.C. 5 was closed between Cherokee Road and Linden Road for several hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators documented the collision. The highway reopened before noon Thursday.
The names of those involved have not been released. The Pinehurst Police Department’s Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Police have not announced a final determination about how the collision occurred.
