Country music singer and songwriter Phil Vassar will perform in Southern Pines to open the Sandhills Celebrates America 250 weekend.
The Phil Vassar Southern Pines concert is scheduled for Friday, September 25, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater.
The performance will be held on the theater’s Kimberly Stage and is being presented by the Moore County Tourism Development Authority.
Vassar Celebrating Major Career Anniversary
The Phil Vassar Southern Pines concert is part of the artist’s “25 Years of Paradise” tour.
The tour celebrates the anniversary of “Just Another Day in Paradise,” which became one of Vassar’s signature recordings after reaching the top of the country chart early in his recording career.
Vassar first gained national attention as a Nashville songwriter. He wrote songs recorded by artists including Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson and Jo Dee Messina before launching his own career as a performer.
His catalog includes 10 number-one hits and 27 Top 40 songs. Popular recordings include “Carlene,” “Six-Pack Summer,” “American Child” and “Just Another Day in Paradise.”
Concert Opens Two-Night Celebration
The Phil Vassar Southern Pines concert will serve as the first major music event of the Sandhills Celebrates America 250 weekend.
The celebration will continue Saturday, September 26, at Gilliam-McConnell Airfield in Carthage.
Country artist Dustin Lynch is scheduled to headline the Saturday event with a DJ club set featuring country songs, remixes and crossover releases. Moore County performer Julia Golden will open the evening.
Organizers said an additional performer for the Carthage event will be announced later.
America 250 Events Planned Across the Sandhills
The weekend is part of local observances marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Organizers selected the Sunrise Theater for the opening concert because of the venue’s intimate environment and live-music acoustics.
The theater is located at 250 Northwest Broad Street in downtown Southern Pines.
Admission for the Phil Vassar Southern Pines concert begins at $43. Additional ticketing and event information is available through the Sunrise Theater and the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen tourism office.
