North Carolina Budget Agreement Reached; Lawmakers Expected to Vote This Week

The North Carolina State Budget 2026 is one step closer to becoming law after legislative leaders reached an agreement on a long-awaited spending plan.

North Carolina State Budget 2026 Includes Raises and Tax Cuts

The proposal includes raises for teachers, state employees, and law enforcement officers. Most state employees would receive a three percent raise, while teachers would receive average raises of about eight percent.

The plan also includes one-time bonuses for teachers and state employees and keeps scheduled income tax cuts in place.

Major Budget Items

The agreement includes additional funding for a new children’s hospital in Apex and a higher tax rate for online sports betting operators.

One proposal not included is public funding for a potential Major League Baseball stadium in Raleigh.

What Happens Next?

The North Carolina House and Senate are expected to vote this week before sending the budget to Governor Josh Stein.

The budget could affect teachers, state workers, law enforcement officers, and taxpayers across Moore County and the Sandhills.
